• One method of using nitric acid in gold refining involves dissolving the impure gold in a mixture of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid, known as aqua regia. This mixture can dissolve most metals and other impurities, leaving behind the pure gold. Once the impurities are dissolved, the solution is then filtered to remove any remaining solid particles. The remaining liquid is then processed further to extract the pure gold. Nitric acid can also be used to selectively dissolve certain metals or impurities, while leaving the gold intact. This process is known as selective leaching and is often used to remove specific impurities without affecting the gold metal.
