• Sodium metabisulfite also helps in precipitating gold from the solution. The addition of sodium metabisulfite creates a chemical reaction that causes the gold to drop out of solution as a fine black powder or sediment. It is also used to neutralize residual chlorine in the solution after the dissolution of gold ores with chlorine gas. This helps in preventing the formation of harmful by-products and ensures the purity of the final gold product.
