Description

  •  A 37% (w/w) Hydrochloric Acid is a clear colorless aqueous solution of Hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas.
  • The “%” refers to solution concentration in percent and “(w/w)” refers to solute and solution amount given in grams (i.e., percentage by weight). This means a 37% (w/w) Hydrochloric acid contains 37 g of HCl per 100 g of solution.
  • The density of 37% (w/w) Hydrochloric acid solution is 1.2 g/ml at 25° C. This means the weight of the 1 ml of the hydrochloric acid solution is 1.2 g at 25°C.
  • 37% hydrochloric acid is commonly used in the refining of gold to help dissolve and separate impurities from the gold. The acid is mixed with the gold-containing material, such as scrap gold or gold ore, to dissolve any base metals or other impurities that may be present.

The acid dissolves the impurities while leaving the gold intact. After the acid has had time to react with the impurities, the solution is then filtered to separate the dissolved impurities from the gold. The gold is then recovered from the solution through various precipitation or smelting methods.

Hydrochloric acid is preferred for gold refining due to its strong acidic properties and ability to dissolve a wide range of metals and impurities. However, it is important to handle hydrochloric acid carefully as it is highly corrosive and can be harmful if not used properly. Safety precautions should be taken when working with hydrochloric acid, such as wearing protective equipment and working in a well-ventilated area.
